LSU-Troy postponed until November because of Hurricane Gustav

Sports Network | September 03, 2008

Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - For the second straight week Hurricane Gustav has impacted LSU football as the Tigers' game against Troy on Saturday has been postponed until November 15. The eye of Gustav passed just west of Baton Rouge on Monday afternoon, unleashing winds with recorded gusts of 74 mph and heavy rains in the state capital. Most of Baton Rouge, including the stadium, was still without power Wednesday morning. "The welfare of the people of Baton Rouge, the uncertain power issues facing all of us and the condition of Tiger Stadium were all factors in making this decision," said LSU director of athletics Joe Alleva. "We are fortunate that both schools had a common open date later in the year. I am appreciative of the cooperation of the good people at Troy for their understanding of this situation." Last Saturday, LSU moved up its kickoff against Appalachian State from 3 p.m. (et) to 11 a.m. in order to accommodate an evacuation order from New Orleans and coastal Louisiana. The Tigers destroyed the Mountaineers, 41-13 Tiger Stadium sustained minor damage from the storm, including broken glass, a torn awning over the club seats and a large scoreboard above the north end zone that sustained minor damage.
